We had the great pleasure of working with client S^yowah, an Indigenous educator and storyteller, to develop his brand identity and his website.
His organization, Buffalo Heart Medicine Healing Society, is dedicated to supporting reconciliation through cultural practice and the sharing of art and culture. S^yowah came to us as a referral from long term client Working Gear. We were very excited to work with him after learning about his incredible work, particularly in the Downtown Eastside. Our favourite clients are engaged in social impact, and we knew that this one was a special one.
As part of our brand development strategy we include:
We customize branding packages based on the needs of each individual client and business.
S^yowah already had some thoughtful ideas and sketches for what he wanted as his core brand identity, and we worked together to develop his unique look and feel. This project was truly a collaboration, from beginning to end!
We started with logo development, building from the sketches he gave us. He immediately liked the options we gave him, and we quickly settled on typography, colour and other details. From there, we developed his business card and moved on to the website.
Working with copywriter Denise Brennan, we developed a brand narrative based on S^yowah’s unique history and the evolution of his project. Through one on one interviews and extensive communication, the voice of Buffalo Heart emerged and we were ready to start designing his page.
Colour is a very important element of the final design. We wanted the look to be bold, warm and inviting. With so many great and vibrant images of his work, it was easy to translate the vitality of the content into the final design.
Collaborating with S^yowah to create his brand, and working with him to bring his idea to life was an honour. As an artist in his own right, it was essential to showcase his passion for his work and his programs, as well as his talent and creativity, as the most important aspect of his brand.
This site is a testament to how much you can achieve in a single-page website, with great contributors and collaborators. The final result is fresh, clean, easy to read, and fun to look at. We’re looking forward to adding functionality to this flexible site as his business develops!
