When people ask us who our ideal client is, we often find it hard to give an answer as we have very much enjoyed working with clients from a variety of industries and from all walks of life. However, something that we are passionate about is to work with companies that are committed to positive social and environmental impact.
Geek Design recently had the opportunity to get to know and work with an organization that is truly making a positive impact in our community – Working Gear. This outstanding organization was established 12 years ago to relieve poverty by providing interview clothing and/or industry appropriate clothing to low income or unemployed individuals in search of employment. They work hard to aid work-ready men that have difficulties accessing paid employment because they lack appropriate attire. Their goal is to reduce or eliminate that barrier. They provide low-income men with industry appropriate clothing at no cost, which greatly assists them in returning to full-time employment. Working closely with employment service providers ensures recipients are work ready and have the support available to keep a job.
This particular organization especially touched us, as our office is located 1 block away from their shop in the Downtown Eastside, a part of Vancouver that is notable for its levels of poverty, mental illness, and homelessness.Â
We were approached by the organization to help with their social media, digital marketing & to create their event marketing collateral for their annual fundraiser – Gear to Give. Working Gear is managed and run by volunteers with NO government funding. Therefore, their annual fundraiser is the most important event of the year, that allows them to raise the necessary funds to operate year to year. It was an honour to be able to help the community that is so close to us.
Their annual fundraiser was held on June 6th at the Vancouver Club. It was a truly special night, with a soulful live performance by Slinki band, a jazz inspired trio. Live painting by Taisha Teal & Skyla Wayryenen from Arts Vancouver. Amazing live auction & silent auction prizes including a Heli-ride & some truly inspiring speeches by the Working Gear’s Chair – Genevieve Blondin & volunteer star Sam Fremont. We got a unique opportunity to meet all the hard working people that make the organization possible and their community.Â

Here are some of our favorite shots of the night photographed by the very talented Maxine Bulloch.
